Application for Special Events, Parades, & Festivals

Welcome to the City of Charlotte website for Special Events, Parades (including races on city streets), and Festivals. To use this page, you must first register, then you can:

  • submit an application
  • check the status
  • learn which documents must be submitted as part of the application process
  • submit those documents from this website
  • make payment for any fees associated with the application

 An Application for a public assembly or parade permit SHALL be made at least 30 DAYS before the commencement of the event.

NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR SPECIAL EVENTS, PARADES, OR FESTIVALS FROM AUGUST 8, 2020 TO SEPTEMBER 11, 2020.

By applying for this parade permit for a race on city streets the event holder agrees to notify the affected residents by posting race notification signs along the route at least 48 hours before the event. Please read the race sign specifications. Use of flyers to notify individual residents and businesses is encouraged.

INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PERMITS

COMMERCIAL GENERAL LIABILITY - Not less than $1million bodily injury and property damage combined single limits each occurrence/aggregate.

LIQUOR LIABILITY - $1million each occurrence (if applicable).

The insurance certifications MUST name the City of Charlotte, its employees, officers and agents as an additional insured.

Please do not delay in obtaining the necessary insurance, as it is required to move further along in the process. The Beer/Wine Permit required for alcoholic beverages cannot be approved without the certificate of insurance for liquor liability.

BE PREPARED TO PAY WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD AT THE END OF YOUR APPLICATION.  THOSE SUBMITTED WITHPOUT THE REQUIRED APPLICATION FEE WILL NOT BE REVIEWED.

*Under current City ordinances, individuals and groups may demonstrate on City sidewalks at any time anywhere within the City, without a permit. Except on sidewalks that may be closed for security, transportation, or logistical reasons, individuals and groups will be allowed to demonstrate on City sidewalks without a permit. Similarly, County parks will be available for individuals and groups to demonstrate without a permit. These properties will not be subject to reservation by anyone; instead, they will be open to anyone and everyone, for peaceable assembly and expressive activity.
